Dried flower pumpkins can MAKE your fall decor...and as a flower farmer and dried flower artist, I particularly love them made with fresh pumpkins. Last autumn, a customer of mine purchased a kit to make her flower pumpkin, and when I ran into her at Christmastime she mentioned that she was sad to have had to throw all those dried flowers out with her pumpkin. Yikes! Apparently she did not read my tutorial! With the method I use and teach to create dried flower pumpkins, the dried flowers can be used season after season--not only economical, but definitely more sustainable than purchasing year after year. Once your fresh pumpkin is done for the season, take a fork and gently lift the flowers away from the pumpkin. Some of the moss will stay glued to the pumpkin, but you should be able to lift the flowers still attached to a layer of moss.
For small pumpkins, the entire floral accent may come off in one piece! For larger pumpkins, remove the flowers in sections. Take the flowers, wrap them in tissue paper and store them in a box or plastic container. Put in a dark, dry place until you're ready to use them again.
It couldn't be more simple...next year, dot the new pumpkin...fresh or faux...with craft glue...
...and place the sections of moss and flowers in place. If any of the flowers fall off or are loose in storage, simply add a little glue and tuck them in.
You may be able to just slide the flower "ring" right over the stem without using any glue!
